First it was the Florida Press Association, now it's NBC.  While not all news outlets live and die by advertising, many are so dependent upon political advertisements that they will "only" air and include those who are buying time on "news" shows.  In full disclosure, Alex Snitker has been endorsed by the Florida Whig Party for the United States Senate; however, there are others who also deserve a shot and we are no less disgusted by their exclusion.  Political parties will rarely take on the mainstream news organizations; which goes both ways in that those who should be dining on others are instead dining with. But then there's the Florida Whig Party where we place Principles above Party, Personality, and Profits.  What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong. Far too often the mainstream media has become medicore media, and thus the rapid decline in viewership and rise in alternative media sources.

September 02 2010 – TAMPA – Libertarian U.S. Senate candidate Alex Snitker did not make the cut to be included in the nationally-televised debate scheduled this Sunday on NBC's Meet The Press. According to NBC, Snitker did not meet their criteria for inclusion in the debate for Florida's Senate seat, however they did not elaborate on what the exact criteria are.

Snitker, who has earned a reputation as the feisty, grassroots underdog in this race, did not take NBC's snub lying down. Within hours of getting word that he would be excluded, the former U.S. Marine launched a fund raising drive for the purpose of buying television ad slots during Meet The Press in Florida television markets.

According to Adrian Wyllie, the campaign media director, the ad will run in several Florida markets during the Sunday show, and will claim that the debate is a “travesty of the democratic process.” Though the ad has been produced and the stations have been paid for the air time, the campaign has not yet received confirmation from the affiliates that it will air.

Snitker supporters are also planning protests outside of NBC affiliate stations in several cities across the state on Sunday. Volunteer coordinator Bev Baker said, “Even people who would not normally get involved have contacted us wanting to do something about this.  They see it as an assault on free speech by the media, of all people.”

In addition, Snitker's legal council is planning to file an emergency motion for temporary injunction against Meet The Press in a last-ditch effort to be included in the debate. Should the injunction be granted by a judge, the debate may not air at all. Wyllie noted that further legal action may be taken if the NBC affiliates reject the TV ads.

Ilana Drimmer, the booker for Meet The Press, has said that her email in-box has been flooded with messages from Snitker supporters requesting that he be included in the debate. However, thus far, NBC has held their ground and has limited to the debate to Marco Rubio (R), Kendrick Meek (D) and Charlie Crist (NPA). Crist, however, has decided to decline the invitation.

“We are just looking for a level playing field and to have the same opportunity as the other candidates to debate this issues,” said Snitker.

In a shocking upset, grassroots U.S. Senate candidate Alexander Snitker defeated GOP frontrunner Marco Rubio in a straw poll held at the Florida Liberty Summit hosted by Campaign for Liberty at the Rosen Center in Orlando, Florida this weekend.

Snitker said of his surprise win, “I think this shows that Americans are starting to shy away from the two-party political class, and are instead looking for candidates that will uphold the Constitution and defend their personal and economic freedoms.”

The Libertarian Senate hopeful not only won the straw poll, but defeated Rubio by a landslide. The final results were:

Marco Rubio (R) 30%

Bernie DeCastro (C) 13%

Charlie Crist (NPA) 3%

Kendrick Meek (D) <1%

Jeff Greene (D) <1%

Campaign for Liberty is a non-partisan group that was founded by supporters of Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) after his 2008 Presidential primary bid. Rep. Paul was the keynote speaker at the three-day event, attended by an estimated crowd of 1,200 people.

Political insiders note that many tea party and 912 groups have been gently distancing themselves from Rubio in recent weeks. Rubio's move toward the center in anticipation of a post-primary battle with Charlie Crist, coupled with the dark cloud of Florida GOP scandals, has caused some conservative groups to look at Snitker as an alternative.

Snitker's individual liberty platform is also picking up some Democrat support along the way. According to Public Policy Polling, Snitker would get 5% of the Democrat vote should Jeff Greene win the nomination.

Snitker, a former U.S. Marine and office equipment salesman, has never held political office. At a time when career politicians are shouldering the blame for America's woes, being a political outsider is seen as a plus by many voters. And Snitker may be as outside the beltway as they come.

We need Congressmen and Congresswomen that aren’t looking for a career. We need people in Congress that are not beholden to a party or an industry or a foreign nation or any other interest except American interest and who have an interest in continuing United States Sovereignty. People that will swear to protect the Constitution of the United States only and be held accountable for their actions in office.

I can go on for a long time about all the things I would not do for or to the American people when in office. I will swear to protect the Constitution upon taking office but I am not going to make campaign promises about what the Country can do for you. There is something that you can do for your Country. There are many candidates from many parties and from no party that are willing to defend the Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic. They are willing to work for the people and break the political party elite strangle hold on Washington. I am one of them and we are fighting against an immeasurable amount of money. We need the financial support of the people that would like to restore the republic. You know who we are but your friends and neighbors and coworkers need to know also. Campaign financing is necessary. People need to see the names and faces of liberty candidates. The media must take notice and polling numbers must change. The system is locked up by money. We can fight fire with fire and restore the republic.

The maximum any one person is allowed to donate to a candidate in an election cycle is $2400. There is no minimum. ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA – When Glenn Beck founded the 912 project, he laid out a philosophy of nine principles and 12 values. He urged people to come together who believed in those principles and values to form local, grassroots organizations. Within days, 912 groups were forming all across the nation.

Beck also had a piece of advice that he repeatedly passed on to these groups. That advice was to find the best candidates, ones that would uphold the principles and values, regardless of party affiliation. The majority of the 912 groups have heeded his words, and have opened their doors to all Constitutional conservatives, regardless of party affiliation.

However, at least one of these groups has taken a different approach. The South Pinellas 9/12 group in Florida has gone out of their way to exclude non-GOP candidates from speaking at their meetings, rallies, and candidate forums. This has at least one third-party conservative steaming mad.

Enter Florida U.S. Senate hopeful Alex Snitker, the Libertarian Party candidate and a 912 pledge signer. Snitker, a former U.S. Marine and strong Constitutional conservative, is running a grassroots campaign that has recently gotten the attention of the media and pollsters.

Snitker and his campaign staff have repeatedly asked that he be given the opportunity to speak at one of the South Pinellas 912 group's events. Each time, group organizer Barbara Haselden has assured Snitker that he would be invited to the next event that included U.S. Senate Candidates.

While stringing Snitker along like a backup prom date, Haselden was all the while courting their anointed superstar, GOP Senate candidate Marco Rubio.

In a email to the 912 group on Tuesday, Haselden excitedly announced that Rubio would finally grace them with his presence at their Freedom Day Rally in St. Petersburg on September 12. Attempting to maintain the increasingly transparent veil of non-partisanship, Haselden also wrote that, “All the Conservative Candidates have been invited to attend.”

Assuming this was confirmation of Haselden's promise to include Snitker at the next Senate candidate event, his campaign staff began promoting Snitker's appearance right away.

Within hours of their announcement, Haselden withdrew Snitker's invitation, stating, “I do not recall issuing that invitation for Alex to speak at the rally.”

After being pressed by campaign staff about backing out on her promise, she elaborated, “You are right when you say that I said if and when we have a candidates forum that included the senate seat that we would invite Alex Snitker.”

"We are not having a candidates forum for the senate race at this time nor do we have one planned,” Haselden added. By that logic, she appears to have a point. A Senate candidate “forum” would have to include more than one Senate candidate.

How can you ensure that an event attended by your favorite Senate candidate, in this case Marco Rubio, does not become a forum? Simply deny all other conservative candidates access. Hence, no forum.

What may be most interesting about South Pinellas 912's favorite son is that, unlike Snitker, Rubio has not signed the 912 pledge according to www.912candidates.org.

There may be another, more sinister reason for Snitker's invitation being revoked. Rumor has it that Rubio's staff is pulling the candidate from any event where Snitker is speaking. One event organizer reported that Rubio's staff declined an invitation after learning the grassroots Libertarian would be there.

One potentially disastrous effect of this GOP takeover of a few, isolated 912 groups is that it gives fodder to left-wing pundits and politicians who have taken to the airwaves claiming this is an “astroturf” movement. Based on the actions of the South Pinellas 912, it would be hard to defend accusations that they are just another branch of the Republican establishment.

While a handful of 912 groups like South Pinellas are looking more and more like Republican PACs, the overwhelming majority of 912 groups have held true to their founding principles and values. To their credit, many 912 groups such as Tampa, Miami, Pasco, Hernando, and North Pinellas have welcomed Snitker and other non-GOP candidates with open arms, and on an even footing with Marco Rubio.

Jason Sager is the candidate who filed to challenge incumbent Ginny Brown-Waite; a Watergirl for the Republican Party. Brown-Waite filed for reelection, raised a lot of money, and then on April 30, just after the close of the filing deadline, announced she was abandoning her bid for a fifth term and would retire at the end of the current Congress. Brown-Waite then endorsed Hernando County Sheriff Richard B. Nugent (Republican) as her successor; who just happened to file moments before the deadline. Regardless of the situation, dirty political chair stacking is wrong and inappropriate. The Citizens and Voters of the 5th Congressional District should be angry at the backroom dealing that took place with Brown-Waite (especially in light of her post marital and residential situation following the death of her husband). The Florida Whig Party encourages all members of the Republican Party to vote for Jason Sager and send career politicians Brown-Waite and Nugent into retirement with their multiple and substantial multi-hundred thousand dollar pensions.

Don't forget Allen Boyd and his self-dealing as an incumbent.

Allen Boyd protesters who his supporters called violent anti-American radicals who will destroy the nation.  Does this group look like the typical violent anti-establishment protesters who throw rocks and bottles, set fires, and assault police? Or, do these people look like many people you'll see this week at the mall or hardware store?

A return to true classical liberalism, that which our nation was founed upon, is truly possible if you do not vote for a single incumbent or ladder climber (one who has been elected to a lower office and now seeks a higher or different office). Vote for the "true" challengers, not the pseudo challenger.
